Closing the Loop: How Fry Fresh Oils Recycles 20L Oil Drums

At Fry Fresh Oils, sustainability doesn’t stop once our oils leave the depot — it’s a part of every stage of our process. One of the key ways we reduce waste and support the circular economy is through the recycling of our 20-litre oil drums.

Step 1: Drum Washing & Oil Recovery

Returned oil drums from our customers are first cleaned using our dedicated 20L drum washing machine. This system decontaminates each drum, removing around 700 grams of residual cooking oil on average.

The oil and water are then separated through our skimmer line, allowing us to recover approximately 200 litres of usable oil every day. This recovered oil is processed responsibly, ensuring nothing goes to waste.

Step 2: Plastic Recycling & Reuse

Once washed, the clean 20L drums move on to our Ami’s granulator, which chips the plastic into 6mm flakes. These flakes are then sent to our recycling partner, Mono World, where they are remanufactured into plastic pellets.

These pellets become the raw material for new plastic products, completing the recycling cycle and reducing the need for virgin materials.

Step 3: Sustainability in Action

This process is part of Fry Fresh Oils’ ongoing commitment to sustainability and environmental responsibility. By recovering waste oil and recycling plastic drums, we’re helping to reduce environmental impact while promoting a cleaner, more circular approach to cooking oil management.

At Fry Fresh Oils, we’re proud to say that every drop — and every drum — is put to good use.
